Serving Our Seniors - A Lunch and Learn Series

This presentation is the fourth in a four-part series. Each program will take place on the last Thursday of each month. June 27, July 25, August 29 and September 26 each at 12 noon. Presented by Serving Our Seniors of York, Maine.

Senior housing can be the pinnacle of someone's life, while aging at home may (or may not) be the best option. Shawn will discuss both of these options and how best to make each happen. You might not need this info now, but it will help you plan! He'll answer questions and help people begin developing a long term plan.

Shawn will help you to understand the complex world of finding the right Assisted Living or Memory Care facility and will also review the benefits of an independent living community for yourself or a loved one.

He will review overall costs, strategies for covering the cost of senior housing communities and information on programs available to help pay for them. He will also cover the process of using Medicaid/MaineCare to pay for a facility, and will share strategies for guarding a lifetime of saving when paying out of pocket.

Do you prefer to stay home and age in place? Shawn will include information on how to best use home care to be able to do this. He will also go over strategies for how to take advantage of subsidized housing in York and in every other state.

LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED TO ALL REGISTRANTS!

About the Speaker:

Shawn Shambo is an Occupational Therapist with over 30 years of experience specializing in geriatrics and dementia.  The span of his career has been focused on addressing one’s functional ability to maximize their overall independence.  Shawn worked as an In-Home Therapist for visiting nursing companies for most of his career. He would see patients in their homes, as well as in Independent Living Communities, Assisted Living Communities and Memory Care Communities. These experiences provided him a wealth of information on senior housing overall. In 2018 he took this knowledge and started “Assisted Living Locators”, where he has helped hundreds to find the best fit for their  senior living and care.
