It is a privilege to host these two prolific authors here at York Public Library in partnership with The Booktenders of York, Maine.

Joyce Maynard will discuss her latest book, How the Light Gets In, the eagerly anticipated follow-up to her beloved novel Count the Ways — a complex story of three generations of a family and its remarkably resilient, and indomitable matriarch Eleanor.

Bill Roorbach will talk about his new book, Beep, an ebullient, funny, and hugely original novel told from the perspective of Beep, a squirrel monkey who — with the help of a brilliant young girl — forges the way forward for a planet in crisis.

Read the following quotes from Richard Russo and Kate Christensen about these two new books!

"If ever we needed a novel capable of healing our troubled, world-weary souls, that time is now. But where, oh where, is the book? Actually, it has arrived: Joyce Maynard's new novel, How the Light Gets In. And what a gift it is."
— Richard Russo, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of Empire Falls and the North Bath Trilogy of Fool novels

"Beep is a wonder — both monkey and novel:  our hero's curious, questing soul, the ebullient brilliance of Roorbach’s prose. Wildly beautiful, funny, moving, entrancing, and hopeful, this is a story for our times, a ray of warm and generous light, a stern warning, a triumph of storytelling."— Kate Christensen, author of Welcome Home, Stranger
