About the artists:

Victoria Elbroch

Born in Cheshire, England, Victoria Elbroch lived in both India and Pakistan for most of her childhood instilling in her a great love for travel. Beginning at the age of 10, she went back and forth to her homeland, managing to survive her education in English boarding schools before her family was repatriated in 1969. In 1973 she emigrated to America with her American husband, Lawrence, who has always played a vital supportive role in her career as a printmaker and artist. While caring for her growing family, Victoria studied etching in Florida and at the University of Oklahoma, also spending three years working with master printmaker, Loraine Moore. She has continued to take every opportunity to learn and evolve in the decades she has made her living from her art.

Victoria’s studio work encompasses all 4 floors in her house from the printmaking press in the basement to the drawing space in the attic. She specializes in mixed media drawing with ink and collage and two printmaking mediums, monotype, and photopolymer etching. She is a member of Zea Mays Printmaking Studio, The Boston Printmakers, and The League of New Hampshire Craftsmen.

Victoria has won numerous awards for her prints and drawings and was awarded the 2019 Piscataqua Artist’s Advancement Grant, enabling her to concentrate on her drawings and the study of trees, a particular passion of hers. Since receiving the grant, she has spent time in the UK drawing meticulously researched ancient trees while also exploring both tree and her family roots.

Lawrence Elbroch

Born in New York City, Lawrence Elbroch is a self-taught photographer with strong technical skills and the patience to remain still as he waits for the right moment to fill the frame. In his teens he purchased the first of many cameras, a very small 16mm Minolta, his “spy camera” which allowed him to remain unobtrusive as he captured his subjects going about their daily lives. He read the entire Time Life book series on Photography, continuing to hone his technique while pursuing various careers before dedicating more time to photography. His interest in texture, shadow and light has carried over into the printmaking medium.

Lawrence has traveled extensively with his wife, Victoria, an accomplished printmaker and artist. They have climbed in the Himalayas and been awestruck in temples and bazaars, leading to some collaborative work where her drawings are meshed seamlessly into his photographs. Lawrence’s work has been published in Artscope Magazine (March/April 2023) and Photographer's Forum Magazine annual “Best of Photography” edition multiple times. He, also, has received awards for his work including a commendation from the Sony World Photography Awards. Drawn to spirituality, nature and people who live simple lives in tune with the earth, he continues to be inspired by daily life and ritual in other cultures, constantly reminded that people across continents are more alike than they are different. Trees have inspired artists for centuries. My hope is that my collaborations with my wife, Victoria, will intrigue people enough to see trees and the natural world as our friends. They are a world in themselves, but ones that help their fellow inhabitants.
